EMERALD COAST BIKE FEST 2008 in Holt, FL Another year, another Emerald coast bike fest. For those of you that have never been it's located at the Emerald coast speedway in Holt, FL just west of Pensacola. It's right off Interstate 10, you can actually see it as you cruise down the highway. Real easy to find, and easy to get to. This was their 8th annual rally and after all this time they've pretty well got their formula down pat. Drags all weekend long, with some bands, a mechanical bull, bike show and a wet tee shirt contest. The camp grounds are quite large and can accomodate big crowds, with tons of primitive (tent) camping and lots of RV spots (bring your own generator). Power is limited, some RV hookups are available. They've also got showers right there, which is a definate plus. Vendors set up selling this & that, both food & motorcycle goodies. And a beer tent so you don't have to bring your own. Something new this year was CLUB NITRO, which is a large tent located accross from the main stage. It's where they stashed the mechanical bull, had a couple of bands along with a dance floor and it's own bar. And it's a good spot to take a break in the shade which is in rather short supply at this rally. Good thing it's a spring party before it really gets hot, I couldn't imaging being out there when the temperature's hitting a hundred degrees in August. The main music feature was Geneva, playing saturday evening and into the night. Great band, these guys are booked up pretty well over most of the bike rally circuit this year. Definately worth the admission price all by themselves, even if you don't care for any of the other entertainment during the weekend. The drag strip friday had test and tune, along with some grudge matches... but the main event on the 1/8 mile track are the saturday pro mod and top gas races. Sunday's the grudge and gambler's races, which wrap up mid-to-late afternoon. And saturday afternoon also featured a motorcycle stunt team showing off their stuff on the track, along with a bike show in front of the main stage. All in all it was a pretty decent time. Not one of those real wild rallies, I saw a quite a few families and children during the day. Of course once the sun goes down things get a little rowdier, and you definately do not need to have any kids there after dark. The bull riding can get a little crazy, and the wet tee shirt contest is right up there on stage in full view of all, and is about as rowdy as it gets. It's a pretty good time, with a little bit of everything. Some drag racing, a good band, a wild contest... this rally has something for everyone without doing anything exclusively. And for what they charge at the gate it's one of the better deals I've seen so far this year. Bottom line is bang for your buck it's a great way to spend a weekend. ENTRY FEES : $30 per person for the entire bike fest. $25 saturday weekend pass, $10 sunday only. Extra $15 fee for any NON MOTORCYCLE vehicle (car, truck, RV, camper etc). Includes primitive camping. ENTERTAINMENT : Live bands, motorcycle drag racing, wet tee shirt contest, bike show, motorcycle stunt show visit their offical web site www.emeraldcoastbikefest.com | ||||
