Steel Pony Express 2001 New Orleans, Louisiana Nov. 3-4 FATBOBS PERSONAL COMMENTS : Big Rally. Lotsa RUB'S (Rich Urban Bikers). Lotsa Vendors. Lotsa very impressive shiny show bikes, Lotsa people that swapped their pressed suits & power ties for shiny new leathers. And worst of all, NOT lotsa naked chicks, biker games & drunk people really having fun. Very corporate, very upscale ''biker'' rally. The kind of event where you see ton's of corporate vendors and locally famous people. Don't get me wrong now folks... it was a VERY GOOD rally, it just wasn't MY KIND of biker party. Let's see... there was some local morning radio talk show host, Camel cigarettes was there with a live belly dancer (ok, that WAS cool ! ), a tatoo contest, a demonstration by the New Orleans police riding their Hogs around an obstacle course, ton's of food vendors selling shrimps, crawfish, po-boys & gumbo (hey, it's a switch from corn dogs & hamburgers, a nice local touch) and some EXCELLENT bands. There were more vendors that you can shake a stick at and some VERY impressive show bikes. Lotsa cool stuff to walk around & gawk at. The grounds were very nice, and the weather was perfect. So I'm sure by now your wondering why I didn't love it? Well... for example the wet t-shirt contest had ONE (yes count'em folks, ONE) girl... who stood up on the stage in her bikini. Wow. OOoooh. Holy crap batman, somebody hold me back I think I'm gonna bust from all this fun. Sniff. It's not fair! I drove all this way, and paid money to get it... where's the PARTY? Lucky for me I suddenly remembered that I was only 30 mins from the world famous french Quarter and Bourbon street, the worlds biggest outdoor public party! Seeing as everybody left the rally fairgrounds when the sun went down, I decided to head down and see if I couldn't score some pictures of drunk people really lettin' loose. BINGO! Let me tell you, I had me a ''beaucoup good time'' down on Bourbon Street ! YES ! Laissez le bon temps rouler ( let the good times roll ) is the official slogan of New Orleans, and they sure do know how to PARTY! Naked chicks flashing in the street for little plastic beads, some kind of naked dance contest the bar I was at, a little too much beer and a lot too much of some kinda giant green drink served up in a plastic hand grenade caused me to have a GREAT WEEKEND ! Ooops. Burp. Plop plop, fizz fizz, what a relief it is... Ah man, I hate driving home the next day with a hangover. But you know what? I had a great time this weekend!
